There was also this liquid matter that the screen showed, and our seats gently mimicked the liquid’s floating movement, making you feel as if you were a part of it. It’s also pretty quiet, so you don’t really notice the sounds from the chair.ĭuring Thor, we would move along to spaceships that flew across the screen, which was cool. It’s not like those 4-D rides that make you feel as if you’re actually in a spaceship or whatnot– remember, you’re still in a regular theatre where 80% of the viewers there are watching the film in standard 3D. These movements aren’t that intense, but are usually gentle. Now, don’t worry about it just throwing you around. The chair doesn’t only vibrate, but it also lifts you up and down, and forwards and backwards. However, my nausea went away after I got used to the moving seat. Back when I first started watching movies in 3D, I’d get dizzy, and the same thing happened initially with D-BOX. All in the same theatre.įirstly, if you get nauseous during 3D movies, I’m pretty sure you won’t be enjoying this. Red seats = D-BOX seats Blue seats = regular seats. These seats are also more comfortable and bigger (they fit less of these seats in the typical row than the regular seats). When you find your seat, you’ll realize that on your right armrest, you get to select how intense you want your seat movement. They reserved some of the prime seats in the house for D-BOX viewers (middle section, closer to the back). These seats are red in colour, and you pre-reserved your seats when you buy your ticket (much like the Ultra AVX films). Instead, we get an area of the regular 3D showing sectioned off for us. Secondly, we realized the D-BOX seats do not get a theatre to themselves like Ultra AVX films. We decided to try it out.įirstly, if you choose D-BOX, you’re still watching a 3D version of the movie– at least that’s what happened to us. When purchasing our tickets, we realized that aside from the usual IMAX, Ultra AVX and regular showings (3D+regular), there was a new option available: D-BOX.ĭoing some initial research, we found out that with D-BOX, your seat moves according to what is happening on the screen. They were like no way is that possible - d-box sets are double the price of a regular seat and you paid for a regular price (btw you can’t just switch seats - the d-box features are only active if a ticket has been sold to that particular seat). So I haven’t seen movies for a while because school has been swamping me down, but I did manage to catch Thor : The Dark World with one of my friends over the weekend! They even asked if I was certain □ I was like yeah and we want more. They were surprised as hell to find out the d-box seats worked. So the next day I went back to the theatre we were at and ask what’s the deal. Like it’s not listed - you can choose VIP lounge seats, 3d, HFR, but nothing specific to D-box. After googling I found that there are two theater chains that have d-box seats listed (this is in Moscow, Russia btw) but there is no way to buy specific d-box seats. They are not advertised in any way so no way to even know these exist. ![]() This particular theatre has 8 screen and only 1 is equipped with D-box. I don’t know how apparent it is to everyone else that the seats are moving but they looked at us like we were high or something after the lights came back on as we were really having a blast watching the movie.Īnyway, first thing I did was try to find more movies/theatres with these seats. It was a late showing so besides us there was only one other couple in the theatre and they had the regular seats. I have to say it’s a totally awesome experience that turned a fairly mid movie into once in a lifetime experience I bought tickets to the middle two rows not even being aware that those rows had D-Box seats (I was not even aware of such a thing up until that point)…įor those not familiar with these or lazy to google - these seat move in sync with the action on screen, vibrate/jar when character on screen gets hit, etc. So, last week me and my girl went to the movies to watch Plane (a Gerard Butler action, plane crash film).
